Collection: Marapachi dolls

Stories are the seeds in which Indian culture sprouted. Human kind has tried every possible way to bring these stories alive.

One such ingenious creation 'marapachi bommai' ( wooden dolls).

These dolls that always come in pairs are believed to depict the incarnations of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. They grace various occasions, especially highlighted in Golu, during Navaratri to grant their blessings.

Marapachi can also be spotted in the trousseau of a bride for her to pass onto her children, symbolising fertility and healthy lineage.

Originally, when the couple was carved out of sandalwood, children can rub the dolls onto a stone, the obtained sandal paste is applied to heal woods making them one of the best playmates.

With time, traditions toned down and stories animated. Yet these majestic dolls continue to find homes of their own.

We in Villvam, have draped the pair in gorgeous silk, meticulously adorning with magnificent jewellery and re-creating the royal demeanour of the old couple.

Marapachi bommai is an irony of simple craft draped in elegance to pass on your unique story
